OMFG! I found my bar and it did not disappoint. It was extremely hard to leave.
At the end of the George IV bridge, which leads into Edinburgh’s medieval Old Town and Royal Mile, is a once-abandoned Gothic church. This grand structure, featuring a stone exterior, pointed arches, and towering spires, has been revitalized as a public house. However, it’s not your typical Scottish pub. The World-Famous Frankenstein & Bier Keller is a German beer hall with a horror theme, as well as a gastropub. Situated in the fashionable historic district of the city, Frankenstein offers an immersive experience that is well-liked by both locals and visitors, paying homage to the literary monster of the same name.
With its combination of Art Deco and Steampunk design, the pub evokes the atmosphere of a mad scientist’s laboratory, complete with cozy booths nested among Tesla coils, plasma lights, and lightning rods. Inspired by both the 1931 Universal Monsters film depiction starring Boris Karloff and Mary Shelley’s original “Frankenstein” story, there are vintage movie posters, eerie accessories, and Frankenstein’s gloomy face hidden everywhere, giving the tasteful decor a nod to the classic haunted house and an all-year-round Halloween feel.
