Figueres (Dali)
Figueres is Salvador Dalí territory, and the reason to come here is obvious: the Dalí Theatre-Museum. Built in his hometown and designed around his own surreal imagination, it’s less a conventional museum and more like stepping directly inside Dalí’s brain.
The building itself is part of the experience — bizarre, theatrical and instantly recognizable, with giant eggs, strange sculptures and unexpected details everywhere you look. Inside, the collection covers paintings, drawings, installations, optical tricks and some of the wonderfully ridiculous ideas that made Dalí such a unique figure in modern art.
Even if you already know his work, seeing so much of it gathered together in a setting he helped create makes the whole experience feel completely different. Subtle it is not. But then, neither was Dalí.
