This love affair started some time ago at a Korean BBQ restaurant in Markham. Also, I’ve watched a lot of Korean cinema. There’s always a scene or two, where they are drinking soju and eating kimchi. This held my attention.
Over the years, I’ve had trouble finding good kimchi. Either it’s heavily processed like what you find in Korean grocery chains such as H-Mart. Or it’s shrimp, fish oil or anchovy based. I hate seafood and can barely eat fish. I just can’t stand the fishy after taste.
I had almost given up when I read a NOW article about a brother and sister who decided to carry on their late mother’s legacy with customizable kimchi. I reached out to SuLee + Kimchi and found out I could order it vegan (no fish) and fiery spicy. Also, I could order it fresh and then let it ferment to taste. I was so in and have been ordering faithfully every month for the past few years. The longer ferment time gives great flavor and a good zap to stews and soups. During first week of a fresh batch, I add some to salads and sandwiches or just grab a forkful. If you like kimchi as much as I do, Please support this local business and go get the best #kimchi in #toronto
