One of my favorite creatives in recent years is Álex de la Iglesia. This Spanish writer-director has always hit the mark for me with his expert blend of dark comedy and horror (The Last Circus, Witching and Bitching, The Bar etc.) with exceptional story telling. At a TIFF screening a few years back, he caught my Hitchcock shirt. He came running up to me and insisted on a selfie for his twitter feed. We were able to chat for a few minutes. I asked him about his influences. Hitchcock of course but also Goya, Dali, Cronenberg, Fellini, Lovecraft, Poe, Barker and King. Wonderful to hear this. His latest offering 30 Monedas (30 coins), an eight-part mini-series, just made my weekend so much more exciting. Thanks, Álex!
