Teotihuacan and Tlatelolco
Teotihuacan and Tlatelolco offer two very different glimpses into Mexico’s pre-Hispanic past. Teotihuacan, northeast of Mexico City, was once one of the largest cities in the ancient world and is dominated by the enormous Pyramids of the Sun and Moon and the Avenue of the Dead.
Tlatelolco sits within modern Mexico City and was once an important Aztec city and marketplace. Today the archaeological ruins form part of the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, where pre-Hispanic remains stand alongside a Spanish colonial church and modern buildings.
These photographs are from our visits to both sites, from the monumental scale of Teotihuacan to the ruins of Tlatelolco surrounded by present-day Mexico City.
