Newcastle

Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away”
The next stop on my trip was Newcastle, New South Wales. This was mainly a chance to break up the long drive between Byron Bay and my next destination, the Blue Mountains.
Newcastle was just a one-night stop after about eight hours on the road from Byron Bay, but there was one major bonus: I stayed in a hotel. By this point I had spent more than two months camping and sharing six-person hostel dorm rooms, so having an actual hotel room — and my first hot bath in two months — was fantastic. I even raided the bar fridge. Ahhhh, civilization!!
I only had enough time to take a few photographs around Newcastle before getting back on the road for the Blue Mountains at 6 a.m. the following morning.
I did, however, manage to photograph an Australian mosquito — or “mozzy,” as they call them — using my finger for scale. As you can see in the gallery, they appeared to be about 10–20 times the size of our Canadian variety. My finger did survive.
