Varanasi
Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganges River in northern India, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities and one of the most sacred places in Hinduism. Its riverfront ghats are at the centre of daily life, pilgrimage and religious ceremonies, creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else we visited in India.
We travelled along the Ganges by boat twice, once in the morning and again at night. It was one of the most memorable experiences of our month in India. This gallery collects our photographs of Varanasi, the Ganges, its riverfront ghats, architecture and everyday scenes from our visit.
