The official poster for Twilight of the Dead, the final chapter in George A. Romero’s legendary zombie saga, has arrived. Its artwork captures the spirit of classic 1980s horror posters while paying tribute to the series’ visual legacy.

Greg Nicotero is handling the film’s practical effects, makeup and gore as a tribute to his longtime friend and mentor. His career began on Day of the Dead, where he worked as Tom Savini’s special effects assistant and appeared as the soldier whose throat is torn out.

Kate Beckinsale has stepped into the lead role following Milla Jovovich’s departure, with Betty Gabriel also starring.

The project originated with Romero before his death. His wife, Suzanne Romero, who has since passed away, was deeply protective of his vision and closely involved in the film’s development. She insisted that the production remain faithful to his writing and the way he would have approached the movie.

According to Suzanne, George felt that Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead had disappointed some of his core fans. He envisioned this final chapter as a return to the darkness and horror of the original trilogy and Land of the Dead.

Set years after Land of the Dead, the story follows survivors on a tropical island who become trapped between two warring communities as the undead continue to evolve. The film aims to bring closure to both the zombies’ evolution and the saga that began with Night of the Living Dead and continued through Dawn, Day and Land.

The screenplay has been described as emotional, bleak and unflinchingly violent, blending gruesome horror and action with Romero’s characteristic humour and humanity. Despite the brutal deaths and relentless carnage, the story reportedly leaves room for hope.

Filming has wrapped, with a release expected sometime in 2027.
