Edinburgh

I was completely blown away by this city. The warmth of the people, the rich history and yes, even the food. Sure, pasties, fish, and chips were next level but what surprised me was how multicultural the food was, much like my hometown of Toronto.  The tour of Edinburgh castle and all the stories contained within and just outside was incredible.  I had heard so much of William Wallace (Braveheart) over the years.  Imagine my delight seeing a larger-than-life statue of him at the castle’s front gates.  We did a Harry Potter walking tour and visited all the sites that inspired the author, JK Rowlings.  Although not a big Harry Potter fan (I never read the books), I was delighted to visit the grave of Lord Voldemort (Thomas Riddle Esq.). A tour of Edinburgh’s most haunted place, Greyfriars Kirkyard graveyard was in order. It was here I learned about Mortsafes (grave cages). These were used to keep grave robbers out. I also learned of the poltergeist hauntings of George (Bloody) MacKenzie.
