Whitsundays

“Go out, go out I beg of you. And taste the beauty of the wild. Behold the miracle of the earth. With all the wonder of a child.”

— Enda Jaques

What turned out to be a mistake turned out to be the single most memorable part of my visit next to Fraser Island..  The vessel I was booked on broke the rudder and I was dying to do some more diving.   The Internet Cafe across the way from my caravan park saved the day.  I found a day trip on the The Whitehaven Express.

Most, if not all the Whitsunday’s tours were more than a few days. It is worth every penny you spend to be there…..It’s MAGICAL!!! People still think these pictures were “adobe beautified”. Nope, this is real. We had about a 3 km hike to get to where the sand and the ocean look that way.  Then we spent the rest of the day diving and snorkeling.  Over 2500 digital pictures were taken of this trip and only 500 made it  to this  website. I could have taken all of them at the Whitsunday’s and Fraser Island.

The beach was as white as snow, a deep silica. The diving was clear and the reef sharks plentiful.  The only way to Whithaven Beach was  to raft in from a larger boat. My only regret is that I could not spend the rest of my life in the Whitsunday’s.

However, like the Goanna‘s go after our BBQ…I gotta eat too!

My belly hurt with laughter when I think about asking Sam (the deck mate on the Whitehaven ship) about a large, strange orange translucent spider crawling across our picnic table. “What the hell is that?” I yelped. In reply, Sam calmy said” Not sure but it will probably kill ya.”
