Yeah, Baby Yeah!! Hervey Bay was to be my departure to Fraser Island. Strange how the Aussies pronounce this town. HARVEY OR HEEVRY!! .. Even a few Brit Girls had a chuckle. Utter chaos broke out when the hostel I arrived at was full. Darn, I had to grab a hotel for the night. Now this really sucked. The reason it sucked was that I ‘d been paying 15-18 Canadian dollars for hostel and camping stays so far. Now I was paying sixty bucks but with no snoring smelly hostel pals. Hmmmm, I could get used to this. “Miles to go before I sleep” as they say.
I found this tacky Great White Shark attraction. Pretty funny stuff. It’s run by a guy named Vic Hislop. After seeing this spectacle in the middle of town I abandoned my swimming plans for the day. Hervey Bay is great place to whale watch. I was there at the right time as I saw quite a few. The reason there are so many sharks in the area is that they are following the whale migration. Here’s some interesting Aussie Shark Facts regarding attacks on humans. Also, I did some diving here and I remember the instructor saying, “if you see a white pointer (Great White) shark you must all form a circle around me, and I will lead you back to the boat”. Ya right !.Lets form this circle of meat so the center piece of meat can make it back to the boat alive!
