I had the impression that the director John Carpenter was a difficult person. I’ve not seen too many interviews with him where he didn’t come off as agitated, irrigating and combative. You can easily forgive him as it’s more about his work. His body of work speaks for itself. He has helmed some of my favorite films of all time. Films such as The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Prince of Darkness, Escape from New York and of course Halloween just to name a few.
This recent podcast interview with Mick Gariss shows a side to the man I didn’t expect. Perhaps age has mellowed him, but comes across as warm, friendly, and humble. I think this mostly due to Mick’s interview style and the fact that they are long been friends. Have a listen. It’s a great interview with lots of insights into Carpenter films I never knew before.
